MSC Cruises
MSC Cruises is the division of the Mediterranean Shipping company SA. Originally it was founded by Achille Lauro as the Lauro Lines. This exotic company marked its entry in 1960s in cruise business. At that time it was operated with just two ships, one was MS Achille Lauro, and the Angelina Lauro. Both of them met fairy ends. Angelina Lauro was burnt at the port of St Thomas in the year 1979 and the other Lauro lines that were also known by the name of Flotta Lauro was also met with the bad times. Now this company is operating with just one ship, the Achille Lauro. And for the worst in 1985 this one and only ship of MSC Cruises was hijacked by the members of Palestine Liberation Front.
This results in the steep downfall of passenger numbers as this event was much publicized. Flotta Lauro name was changed as the StarLauro Cruises after it was purchased by the Mediterranean Shipping Company. In 1994, the one and only Achille Lauro caught the fire and sank at last. After this horrible event the company name was changed to the MSC Cruises. During the march 2008, it was the third largest cruise operator in the world, after that of Carnival Corporation & plc and the Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Three of its ships were under construction and premium fleet consists of 9 exotic cruises and the classic fleet comprises of one ship.
