Norwegian Cruise Line
Norwegian Cruise Line is also known by the name of NCL. Its head quarter is situated at Miami in Florida. It began its operations under the same name in 1966. This company is best known for its free style Cruising concept, this means that there is no hard and fast timings or fixed seating arrangements for meals and the best thing is that there is no need of formal attire. This brand also has a sister company NCL America. This one is also jointly owned by the Star Cruises (basically owned by the Genting Group based in Malaysia) and by the Apollo Management with both has 50% partnership.
NCL Company was founded in 1966 by Ted Arison and by Knut Kloster. But shortly after that Arison left in order to form Carnival Cruise Lines but the Kloster acquired the additional ships from the Caribbean service. This NCL was also responsible for several cruise renovations that have now become the standard throughout the cruising industry. This brand made headlines with the acquisition of the France in the year 1979 and rebuilds that liner as the cruise ship and also renamed her as Norway. This conversion costs them around $100 million USD. It also purchased the half completed of the first Project America ship in 2002. In the very next year company announced the purchase of the famous American flagged liners SS United States and SS Independence. While in 2007 Star Cruises surprised the world by selling its 50 % of NCL to Apollo management of $1 billion.
